Do porta potties freeze in a Boise winter?

A porta potty tank can freeze when Boise drops below 32°F, and the January average low is 25.5°F. Antifreeze in the tank keeps the waste and blue liquid from turning solid. We add winter antifreeze from November through March at no extra cost.

The NWS Boise office records cold snaps well below the average. The record low is −28°F. Even a mild winter brings many nights under freezing.

A frozen tank cannot be pumped until it thaws. That is why the antifreeze charge goes in at delivery and again at each service visit.

  • Antifreeze is mixed into the tank liquid.
  • The mix is renewed after every pump-out.
  • The toilet stays usable through overnight freezes.

Can you rent a hand-wash station in freezing weather?

A standard hand-wash station holds 22 gallons of fresh water, and that water can freeze below 32°F. The foot pumps then stop working. Most Boise winter sites switch to hand sanitizer inside each porta potty. Others plan a heated unit when running water is required.

The PolyJohn Bravo station has two sinks and foot pumps. Its fresh water sits in an unheated tank. Freezing nights can crack lines or lock the pumps.

Where should a porta potty go when snow is on the ground?

A winter porta potty should sit on firm, level ground. The spot should be within about 30 feet of the truck. Keep the unit out of snowplow paths and away from roof drip lines. A clear, shoveled walkway of at least 4 feet helps workers and the service driver.

Wet clay and thawing mud are harder than snow. A unit can sink and tip on soft ground during a midday thaw.

  • Set the unit on gravel, a pallet pad or packed dirt.
  • Face the door away from the north wind.
  • Keep the path to the door salted or sanded.
  • Do not bury the unit in plowed snow piles.

Foothills sites above Boise and towns like Idaho City see more snow than the valley floor. Tell us about steep or icy drives before delivery.

How often are porta potties serviced in winter?

Monthly porta potty rentals include 1 service visit per week all year, winter included. Each visit pumps the tank, washes and sanitizes the unit, restocks paper and recharges the antifreeze. Crews over 10 workers often add a second weekly visit, since cold weather does not reduce use.

Snow days can push a route by a day. The driver still reaches each site that week.

Make sure the gate code and key box are current. A locked gate means a missed service visit. An extra unscheduled visit costs $65.

What does a winter porta potty cost in the Treasure Valley?

A standard porta potty costs $165 per 28-day cycle, with weekly service and winter antifreeze included. Monthly rentals in Zone 1 add a one-time $75 delivery and pickup fee. Prices are before 6% Idaho sales tax, and there is no fuel surcharge in winter.

How do you set up a winter job-site toilet?

Start a winter job-site toilet with a monthly rental and a firm spot near the truck route. Add sanitizer for hand cleaning. The monthly plan has no long-term contract. Call or text for pickup anytime, and pickup happens within 2 business days.

Builders in Kuna, Star and south Meridian keep framing through the winter. A toilet that works on frosty mornings keeps crews on site.

Related questions

Do you charge extra for antifreeze in the winter?

Winter antifreeze is included from November through March at no extra charge. The driver adds it at delivery and recharges the tank after every weekly pump-out. The porta potty stays usable through Boise cold snaps.

Can I get a heated porta potty in Boise?

Standard porta potties are not heated. For a warm restroom in winter, a restroom trailer with climate control is the usual choice. A trailer needs a standard 110V, 20-amp outlet or a generator, plus a level spot.

Will you deliver a porta potty when it is snowing?

Deliveries run Monday through Saturday in winter, weather allowing. Heavy snow or ice can shift a stop by a day. Clear a path near the drive and tell us about steep or unplowed roads before delivery.

What happens if the porta potty freezes anyway?

A tank with antifreeze rarely freezes solid in the Treasure Valley. During a deep cold snap, tell us right away. We can add a service visit to pump and recharge the tank before the next cold night.

Is winter a good time to book a construction porta potty?

Winter is a slower season for event rentals, so construction units are usually easy to get. Same-day delivery in the Boise metro works when you call before noon Mountain Time. The rush fee is $95.
